Rossi: 1 Megawatt eCat Plant in North Carolina

An e-cat low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) unit capable producing one megawatt of heat is being tested near Raleigh, North Carolina. That’s the claim from Rossi at his Journal of Nuclear Physics blog.

In a response to a question Rossi revealed that a one megawatt ecat unit has been shipped to a factory owned by Industrial Heat LLC. The factory is apparently located somewhere in the eight county Research Triangle region that includes the cities of Raleigh and Durham. Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are also located in the area.

Energy Shortage and Open Sourced Patents Opportunities for LENR

There are two really interesting stories from a Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) or energy buff’s standpoint. The first is the new Iraq War, experts think the latest offensive by the terrorist group ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) could cause gasoline prices across the USA to rise by 14¢ a gallon, prices in Canada cloud rise to $1.50 per liter according to the CBC.

Airfares could also increase because jet fuel prices will also increase, analyst Dan McTeague told the CBC. The CBC also reported that oil prices could rise by $40 or $50 a barrel if fighting spreads to southern Iraq where the main oilfields are. Iraq is the world’s seventh largest producer putting out 3.3 million barrels a day.

Musk Declares Patents Dead in Lesson for LENR Developers

Tesla Motors and SpaceX CEO Eon Musk has just effectively declared the idea of patents dead. He’s also taken an action that low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) companies such as Industrial Heat LLC, Defkalion and Brillouin should emulate.

Elon Musk promoting the Tesla S Series Sedan

In a blog post labeled “All Our Patent Are Belong To You” Musk effectively made all of Tesla’s electric car patents open sourced. That means anybody can use those patents on an electric car and Musk won’t sue them.

LENR gets Good and Bad Publicity in Sweden

Andrea Rossi’s ecat Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) technology has been getting a lot of attention in Sweden lately. Journalist Mats Lewan has been able to generate a lot of publicity through his articles in the magazine Ny Teknik and his book An Impossible Invention.

Lewan has generated so much attention that the scientific establishment and its pet “journalists” have launched an attack upon him and his work. This of course was predictable, and understandable.

Defkalion device Failed to Produce Excess Heat

The Hyperion low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) device from Defkalion Green Technologies failed to produce excess in critical tests over the summer.

That’s the conclusion of Luca Gamberale who is identified as the Chief Technology Officer of an Italian Company called Mose srl. Mose srl was apparently Defkalion’s partner in a joint venture that’s since been dissolved. Gamberale has a Phd in high energy physics from the University of Milan.

Some Reasons why We Should Believe Andrea Rossi

There are a number of good reasons why we should take inventor Andrea Rossi and his ecat low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) technology seriously. These reasons will not convince the cold fusion skeptics but they should give those of us who have open minds some food for thought.

Sergio Focardi

Reasons why we should take Andrea Rossi and ecat seriously include:

  • The involvement of the late Sergio Focardi in the development of ecat. Focardi a physics professor at the University of Bologna worked closely with Francesco Piantelli to develop one of the early nickel hydrogen LENR processes. Focardi was a serious scientist who was willing to put his reputation on the line for LENR.

Drought Caused Electricity Shortages Show the Need for LENR

Electricity shortages in Brazil and California show the need for new sources of power such as Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR). These shortages also reveal the limits of renewable energy and raise serious questions about strategies that rely upon it.

Politicians and utility executives in Brazil are scrambling to prevent anticipated electricity shortages because an ongoing drought is literally drying up the reservoirs that power the nation’s hydroelectric dams. Around 68% of the electricity in Brazil is generated by hydro. Some experts even think that electricity rationing is imminent in Brazil.

Electric Grid facing new Challenges

The electric grid the network of power plants, power lines, substations, transformers and other infrastructure that supplies the United States with power is in serious trouble. The problems the grid is facing will drive the adoption of diffused or off-grid electricity generation and drive the development new energy sources such as Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR).

Some recent news stories underscore what’s wrong with the grid even if they don’t necessarily provide any solutions. These stories include:

US Energy Department Admits Commercially Viable Energy is not its Job

A slip of the tongue by a high official of the US Department of Energy in recent Congressional testimony might reveal why that organization has little or no interest in cutting edge technologies such as Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR).

Dr. Julio Friedmann demonstrating his commitment to the energy status quo

“Our job is not commercialization or the determination of economic viability,” Dr. Julio Friedmann recently told the Energy Commerce Oversight Subcommittee of the United States House of Representatives (the lower house of the US Congress). Dr. Friedmann is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy for Clean Coal. For skeptics here is video of Dr. Friedmann’s testimony to Congress.

Rossi’s e-cat Sale only One of Several Cold Fusion News Stories

There’s suddenly a lot of buzz about cold fusion or low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) out there on the web. The biggest stories are about Andrea Rossi’s sale of his ecat technology to Industrial Heat LLC but they’re only the tip of the iceberg.

Even some mainstream media outlets picked up the news of Industrial Heat’s ecat purchase. Some of the stories were critical but at least the story is being publicized. People will start asking questions about this LENR thing and start wondering why investment fund billionaires are interested in it.
