US President Barack Obama has signed a sweeping patent law reform bill that could affect a large number of new technologies including cold fusion. Obama signed the bill on Friday September 16, at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington.
The President signs the America Invents Act
The law called the America Invents Act is designed to help the US Patent Office which is reportedly facing a backlog of 1.2 million pending patents. These would presumably include a number of Cold Fusion device patent applications including Andrea Rossi’s patent application for his e-cat cold fusion device. It now takes about three years to get a patent approved.
“Somewhere in that stack of applications could be the next technological breakthrough, the next miracle drug,” Obama told reporters in a comment that seemed to point to Rossi. “We should be making it easier and faster to turn new ideas into jobs.”
It is unclear exactly how this legal change would affect Rossi’s e-cat and other cold fusion devices. Rossi has asked his lawyers to look into this measure. Since Obama has signed it is now law but in the American system, a law can be overturned or substantially altered by the courts. Legal challenges could derail the America Invents Act. They could also tie implementation of this new law up in the courts for years. It is not known if any legal challenges will be made to America Invents.
The America Invents Act fundamentally changes the US patent system from a “first to invent” to a first to patent system. That would probably benefit Rossi who already has an Italian patent for his e-cat.
According to Andrea Rossi’s patient WO2009/125444 A1 one gram of nickel produce the same energy like 517 tons of oil. That means a gram of nickel yields over 5 billion calories, or is over 30,000 times as energy dense as oil or coal.
Sounds good to me. It’ll take some time to harness that energy. Interesting claim.
OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
Dear President Obama and Vice President Biden,
This letter is to inform you of a very important new energy producing device that was named “Energy Catalizer” or “E-Cat” by it’s inventor, Dr. Andrea Rossi. The E-Cat was demonstrated and tested on October 6 at Bologna, Italy. Scientists from around the world came to see if this wonderful new machine was real. Many chemists and physicists tested and confirmed continuous production of heat and the safety of the E-Cat. The impact of the Energy Catalyzer development is far reaching and will give the world a clean, cheap, safe and unlimited energy source.
The history of the low temperature energy production devices goes back to the 1920s. In 1956 the term “cold fusion” was used in a New York Times article about Dr. Louis W. Alvarez’ and his experiments with muon-catalyzed fusion. In 1989 two electrochemists at University of Utah, Stanley Pons and colleague Martin Fleischmann, announced to the world that they had achieved nuclear fusion in a jar at room temperature. “When current is passed through heavy water from a palladium cathode, the palladium absorbs deuterium atoms, which are forced to fuse, generating heat and neutrons”, they said.
The evidence is now clear; these experiments are producing heat energy and the outputs are too large to be chemical exothermic reactions. These are obviously nuclear reactions! Yet some establishment fusion and fission scientists were/are determined to discredit any claims of nuclear reactions at room temperature. This was a self-serving reaction to protect their hot fusion industries and jobs. Over one thousand experiments have produced energy and validated the process.
In recent experiments, Dr. Francisco Piantelli has shown that Ni/H LENR (low-energy nuclear reactions) are easier to control and produce large amounts of energy. Dr. Andrea Rossi and research partner Dr. Sergio Focardi have made improvements on the Ni/H reaction process and now have a 1 MW Energy Catalyser system ready for commercial use. They are shipping this E-Cat to the United States where it will be tested and installed by the first customer. Every American can benefit from cheap, safe, and abundant energy for homes, industry, and transportation. The manufacture and service of these E-Cats will bring lots of jobs in this new industry.
The Ni/H LENR reactor/E-Cat is real and has been validated by top scientists from around the world. Let’s welcome Dr. Rossi and his wonderful “Energy Catalizer”. And lets not let those establishment physicists and Skeptics stop the advancement of the wonderful E-Cats.

I’m not sure that appealing to the President would help. Rossi isn’t politically connected and he isn’t asking for $500 million for his process. A large percentage of which would be kicked back to the President and other politicians in the form of campaign donations. If you do send that letter enclose a check. The President will pay attention to that. PS the DIA has probably already briefed Obama on e-cat so he knows about it.
Jenni, Obama is saying energy is a priority and the Department of Defense Leon Paneta) will focus on that. So, the thing is to get his attention and evaluate the Rossi E-Cat? He may already be doing that. Rossi said a military entity purchased the first 1 Meg E-Cat. We do not want any obstacles (regulations) that will stop or slow down the sale of the reactor. jdh
I’ve heard that. Unfortunately I don’t make enough campaign donations to get high level access to the Obama administration. Obama has said energy is a priority before. Note Paneta will do whatever the generals and admirals tell him to do like a good little second lieutenant would. In today’s America the Secretary of Defense’s role is to serve the coffee at the Joints Chiefs meetings and do whatever they tell him or he’ll be vilified like Mr. Rumsfield (the last secretary of defense who had the nerve to believe he could order men in uniform around). Civilian control of the military is dead in America.
