In Giuliano Bettini’s article he assumes that the unstable Copper isotopes that are created from the isotopes of Nickel go through beta decay back to a heavier isotope of Nickel.
While 63Cu and 65Cu are stable, with 63Cu comprising approximately 69% of naturally occurring copper, the other isotopes of Copper have fairly short lives. Even so, it is possible that before they can decay, they may be further acted upon by the mono-atomic hydrogen nuclei. Beta decay may never get a chance to happen. Of course this would mean that mono-atomic hydrogen could somehow become a neutron and contribute that to the Copper nuclei (and possibly Nickel nuclei) as well.
